How to use SFTP

1. Open the SFTP client:

Either by double clicking the icon on your desktop
Secure File Transfer Client Icon::
Or go to Start => Programs => SSH Secure Shell => Secure File Transfer Client. The path to the SSH may be different from computer to computer.

Note: If you do not have SFTP client, you can download it from IUware Online. The SFTP client is bundled with the SSH client. For instructions on obtaining the SSH client see How to dowload SSH.

 

2. Click on Quick Connect.

 

3. Type the following:

Host Name: veritas.ucs.indiana.edu
User Name: your_account_name

and click on Connect button.

If this is your first time logging in via SFTP, you will be prompted with "Host Identification". Click Yes

Then type in the veritas account password, when prompted.

 

4. On the left you will see the files and directories of your local computer. On the right you will see the contents of your account on Veritas.

By double-clicking the www (either on the icon or the name, www), you can move to the www directory of your account.

 

5. Now the files in the www directory are listed on the right.

The drop-down menu tells you where you are - the current working directory (1). You can move back to your login directory by clicking on the Up icon (2).

 

6. To transfer files from your veritas account to your local computer, you can just drag and drop files from the right pane to left (1).

To view the status of the transfer, look for the name of your file in the bottom window pane (2). Under the heading "Status", you can determine if your file has completed its download (3).

 

7. To transfer files from your local computer to your veritas account, drag and drop files from the left pane to right.
